Sierra Nevada – Ski Season Begins on 29 November 2025

Thanks to recent snowfall, Europe’s southernmost ski resort will officially open its 2025/26 season on 29 November. This impressive mountain range, similar in origin to the Alps, rises to nearly 3,500 metres behind the city of Granada. As a result, it offers one of the most spectacular winter landscapes in southern Europe.

A High-Altitude Ski Resort with International Prestige

The ski area begins at an altitude of around 2,000 metres. Back in 1996, it became internationally known as the host of the Alpine World Championships. Under good weather and snow conditions, visitors can enjoy up to 110 kilometres of slopes. On clear days, the views are truly exceptional — you can even see Morocco.

In recent years, the resort has invested heavily in infrastructure and snowmaking systems, ensuring reliable ski conditions throughout the season. Daily ski passes are available from €59 on the official website: Forfaits Sierra Nevada.

A Mountain Range for All Seasons

During winter, the northern side of the Baetic Mountain System transforms into a dynamic and varied ski resort. Meanwhile, throughout the rest of the year, the entire region becomes a superb hiking destination. Numerous marked trails cross the mountains, including the famous GR 7, part of a major European long-distance route.

The Alpujarra – Culture and History on the Southern Slopes

On the southern side of Sierra Nevada lies the Alpujarra, once the last refuge of the moriscos after their expulsion from Granada. Even today, the region preserves a unique cultural heritage. Its small mountain villages maintain traditional architecture, deep-rooted customs, and a calm atmosphere that makes visitors feel transported into another world.
