Daytrip into the Alpujarra – the last haven of the Moriscos

The Alpujarra is a captivating mountain region located south of Granada. Known as the last save haven of the Moriscos after the surrender of the Alhambra by Boabdil to the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. The area has preserved many of its traditional customs and architecture thanks to its relative isolation. Its villages are charming and full of character, offering a glimpse into a slower, more authentic way of life.

The region’s natural beauty is another major attraction, with dramatic landscapes, mild climate, and proximity to the Mediterranean— ust 40 kilometres. Hiking here is a true pleasure, offering fantastic views and a deep connection to nature.

Suggestion for a 8-hour daytrip to the Alpujarra:

I will pick you up in Granada with a private transport and its driver and he takes us to the Taha area (approximately 1.5 hours).

Hiking in the Taha Area: This area is perfect for a short, scenic hike of around 1.5 hours. I can adapt the walk to your fitness level. The Taha villages are calm, uncrowded, and offer a more authentic experience amid stunning landscapes.

Visit to the Poqueira Gorge: After the hike, we’ll travel to the Poqueira area to explore the picturesque villages of Pampaneira, Bubión, and Capileira. These villages are known for their unique architecture and cultural heritage.

Lunch & Exploration: If desired, we can stop for lunch at one of the region’s local restaurants with typical food. I enjoy guiding guests through one or two of the villages, sharing insights about the area's history and traditional architecture. For those interested, we can also visit the local costume museum and stop by artisan workshops.

Return to Granada: We will then return to Granada by private transport.

Optional Customization: The itinerary can be tailored to special interests such as ham or wine tasting.
