Daytrip along the coastline of Granada and Málaga – Almuñécar, Nerja and Frigiliana

A licensed driver will pick you up in Granada, and together we’ll begin our journey along the coastline of Granada and Málaga.

Our first stop is Almuñécar – today a popular beach destination, but also a place rich in history. During Roman times, a local fish factory here produced the famous Garum sauce. Remarkably, remnants of this facility can still be seen today.

In the year 756, Abd ar-Rahman I landed on these shores – the sole surviving member of the Umayyad dynasty, once rulers in Syria. From Almuñécar, he began the reconstruction of his dynasty in Al-Andalus, which culminated in the establishment of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba in 929. We will visit the ancient fortress, offering breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding town.

We then continue our coastal drive to Nerja – renowned for its picturesque beaches and the famous “Balcony of Europe,” a scenic viewpoint that offers panoramic views over the sea. But Nerja holds another treasure: its prehistoric caves, filled with dramatic stalactites and stalagmites. A guided walk through these caverns is an unforgettable experience.

Just a few kilometres inland lies the charming mountain village of Frigiliana, originally founded by the Berbers. Today, it is considered one of the most photogenic villages in Andalusia - with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses, and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

Finally, our driver takes you back to Granada.
